Another victory for the world’s No. 1 woman in tennis and home hero Ash Barty as she made her way to the third round of the Australian Open on Tuesday, beating Italian Lucia Bronzetti 6 – 1, 6 – 1 on the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, the Associated Press reported.

The first set of the match was finished in less than 25 minutes and the second set was also equally disappointing for the Italian woman as it was sheer dominance by the World No. 1. The victory was assured under an hour when her opponent netted a backhand.

Barty had made a total of eight aces in the match and only two double faults in the whole game. Moreover, the Wimbledon champion won 53 points compared to Bronzetti’s 23 points. In short, Ash Barty was all over Lucia Bronzetti and has made herself going with a fighting spirit into the third round.

The incumbent Australian Open women’s champion also booked her spot in the third round with a 6 – 1, 6 – 2 win over Switzerland star Jil Teichmann. Joining Azarenka in the third round was Spanish No. 8 Paula Badosa, who defeated Italy’s Martina Trevisan 6 – 0, 6 – 3 in a second-round match on Wednesday.

Barty, who hopes to end Australia’s 44-year-long wait for a homegrown women’s champion, next faces another Italian in the third round.

She will face Camilia Giorgi on Friday, where the venue has not yet been decided. “She (Giorgi) is an incredible ball striker, one of the most athletic girls out here,” Barty said to Australian media. “Not afraid to stand on the baseline and put you under time pressure from the first strike. I will have to have my running shoes on, get the backhand slice out and bring in variation and see how it goes.”
